Family vineyard since 1981

A story of 3 generations

Château Tour des Gendres is a 30-hectare wine estate located in Ribagnac in the heart of the Bergerac appellation and managed today by Gilles and Margaux de Conti.

Its story begins with Primo de Conti, farmer and son of Italian immigrants, who planted a few vines in Ribagnac. By taking over his father's vines, Luc de Conti created Château Tour des Gendres in 1981 and developed it to become one of the flagship estates of Bergerac.
When their father retired and after wandering their separate ways, siblings Gilles and Margaux de Conti finally took over the family torch in 2022, to give new impetus to the estate with lots of new ideas!

Vineyard and philosophy

Here, we are organic and we care about it! A precursor of his time and despite opposition, Luc de Conti began working in organic farming in 1996 and was finally certified in 2009. Lovers of nature and convinced by the quality of wine, it is natural that Gilles and Margaux continue this management of the organic field, and claim it with passion.

Grape varieties like no other: lovers of Jura wines and freshness in dry whites, Gilles and Margaux planted Savagnin in 2017, a grape variety that still does not exist in Bergerac. Indeed, frustrated by global warming and white wines becoming increasingly heavy and fatty, they decided to take the plunge and try the experiment with this beautiful grape variety in order to make wine in their image. Successful bet for the siblings! They gave life to two vintages, Cantalouette blanc and Le Vif, wines full of finesse and tension, which exalt your palate!

An exceptional terroir: The vineyard is composed of 50% red grape varieties (merlot, malbec, cabernet franc) and 50% of grape varieties whites (sauvignon, chenin, savagnin), on predominantly clay-limestone soils, with the whites ideally planted in the most calcareous areas. The vineyard is planted in one piece around the estate, in a hilly area offering a beautiful diversity of terroirs and soils. It is surrounded by truffle oaks planted by Luc and forests, which not only protects the vines from frost corridors but above all gives it an abundant ecosystem, a reserve of life for birds and insects, which themselves will feed the soil and rid the vines of pests.

Vinification and aging

In the cellar, we coax the wines. We work on the wines according to the vintages and vintages, with gentleness. The whites are pressed directly, vinified in thermoregulated stainless steel vats then aged in vats or in 30hl tuns.

In order to respect the tannins as much as possible, the reds are barely extracted and undergo maceration for around a month, before being aged in vats or 30hl tuns. No barrels at Château Tour des Gendres, short aging is done in stainless steel vats and long aging is only done in tuns to prevent the wines from being too woody and always respecting the tannins. Thus, the wines are fruity, with freshness and silky tannins, full of power and elegance.
